ASHA is pleased to announce the awardees for the fifth annual Research in Higher Education Mentoring Program (RHEMP), sponsored by the academic affairs unit. This program is funded by ASHA in order to provide students with an opportunity to obtain hands-on experience with, and knowledge of, the research process through participation in a one-week mentoring relationship with a researcher-teacher in a university/college setting. The overall goal of the program is to expose students to academic research, so that they will consider pursuing a doctoral degree and a career as a faculty researcher in an academic institution.
This year 49 applications were received for the RHEMP, and 18 student-faculty mentor pairs were selected to participate in the 2003 program. Students receive a stipend of up to $1,500 to cover their transportation and lodging costs, and faculty mentors receive a $500 honorarium for their guidance of the student throughout the one-week learning experience.
