The Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) is committed to providing excellent accreditation opportunities for academic programs in audiology as well as speech-language pathology. To that end, every 5 to 8 years, the CAA conducts a comprehensive review of its standards to ensure that the standards meet the needs of the discipline of communication disorders and sciences and the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology. Any proposed changes are reviewed extensively by the accreditation stakeholders including academic programs, professionals, state associations, ASHA councils and committees, the Council on Academic Programs in Communications Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD), students, and state regulatory agencies. The review of the 1999 standards began in 2005 and will culminate with the implementation of revised standards on January 1, 2008.
